WHFS, which has been a Washington, D.C. radio tradition as the alternative station, suddenly changed formats today to... all Spanish!
According to the Washington Post, the change was sudden.
The abrupt switch came as a shock. Since 1969, WHFS has served as the arbiter of cutting-edge rock in the Washington area, introducing listeners to acts such the Cure and the Violent Femmes.
Truely amazing because WHFS used to be the leader, but in recent years it has just become lame -- like many alternative radio stations out there these days.
Still, it is a shocker!
Lame? LAME? What are our alternative alternatives? Where will we go for anything remotely new and interesting? Who will introduce new music (even if it is new to us) and be a voice for young semi-sold out artists? (Don't even say satellite.)
NO more NIckleback! No More Nickleback! No More Nickleback!!!

Um, satellite? Unfortunately, it's true -- commercial radio is becoming passe. And 'HFS has not served any of these much needed needs for years. THAT is why it is now a Spanish station!
In my humble opinion.
